Chocolate Kiss Acorns

A tiny four-ingredient fall treat made from chocolate kisses, mini cookies and a little melted chocolate. The cleanest-looking acorns come from using much less “glue” chocolate than you think you need.

Small chocolate candies arranged on a wooden board

Why this method works

Four ingredientsEasy shopping list.
No bakingJust melt and assemble.
Batch friendlySimple repeated steps.
Party-readyFirm enough for a platter.

Before you start

Use tiny dots of melted chocolate. Too much squeezes out around the cookie and hides the acorn shape.

Ingredients that matter

Mini vanilla wafers make the most convincing cap shape. Peanut-butter chips work especially well for the stem because their color contrasts with the chocolate.

How to make them

  1. Step 1. Line a tray with parchment and place the mini vanilla wafers flat-side up.
  2. Step 2. Melt the semisweet chocolate in short microwave bursts, stirring until smooth.
  3. Step 3. Place a small dot of melted chocolate in the center of each wafer and press the flat base of a chocolate kiss onto it. Let set 5–10 minutes.
  4. Step 4. Turn each piece wafer-side up. Add a tiny dot of melted chocolate and press on one mini chocolate chip to form the stem.
  5. Step 5. Let the acorns stand until completely firm before transferring to a container.

Useful swaps

Milk or dark chocolate kisses both work. If mini vanilla wafers are unavailable, use another crisp mini round cookie with a flat side.

Storage

Store airtight at cool room temperature for up to 1 week, away from direct sun or warm rooms.

Yield24 acorns

Ingredients

  • 24 chocolate kiss candies, unwrapped
  • 24 mini vanilla wafer cookies
  • 24 mini chocolate chips or peanut butter chips
  • 1/3 cup (57 g) semisweet chocolate chips, melted

Instructions

  1. Line a tray with parchment and place the mini vanilla wafers flat-side up.
  2. Melt the semisweet chocolate in short microwave bursts, stirring until smooth.
  3. Place a small dot of melted chocolate in the center of each wafer and press the flat base of a chocolate kiss onto it. Let set 5–10 minutes.
  4. Turn each piece wafer-side up. Add a tiny dot of melted chocolate and press on one mini chocolate chip to form the stem.
  5. Let the acorns stand until completely firm before transferring to a container.
Helpful notes
Use very small dots of melted chocolate so the adhesive does not squeeze out around the wafer. Let the first joint firm before adding the stem.
